SNAP-8 is a synthetic anti-aging peptide that is primarily used in topical skincare products (serums, creams, etc.). It is a shorter, modified fragment of a larger and more well-known peptide called Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 or -8).
 
Its name comes from its function: it is a Synaptic Neurotransmitter-Affecting Peptide.
 
What Does SNAP-8 Do?
 
SNAP-8 works by targeting the underlying cause of dynamic wrinkles—those caused by repeated facial muscle movements like frowning, squinting, and smiling.
Its mechanism is often compared to that of Botox (Botulinum Toxin), but it is topical and much milder. Here’s how it works:

Argireline is a 6-amino acid peptide and was the first well-known topical neuropeptide.
SNAP-8 is an 8-amino acid peptide. The extra length makes it a more effective decoy, allowing it to bind more competitively to the SNARE complex.
Result: Studies suggest that SNAP-8 is more effective than Argireline. It is often cited as being up to 30% more effective at reducing wrinkle depth and is considered a superior successor.
